Best Retirement Planning Websites
The Safe Harbor 401(k). As a result of the Small Business Job Protection Act of 1996, the Safe Harbor plan combines the best features of the traditional 401(k) and a SIMPLE IRA, making it very attractive to a business owner. With a Safe Harbor plan, a business owner-operator can avoid the big administrative expenses of a Traditional 401(k) and enjoy higher contribution limits than those available in the Simple 401(k). The Safe Harbor plan allows for employers to make matching or non-elective contributions to each employee. Employers typically match contributions dollar-for-dollar until the employee’s contribution equals 3% of the employee’s compensation. After that, an employer has the option to match employee contributions at 50¢ on the dollar until the employee’s contribution equals 5% of the employee’s compensation.
By way of definition, retirement planning refers to various strategies put in place to ensure a stress-free enjoyment season during the period of retirement. In the financial context, retirement planning is all about allocation of funds for your pleasurable retirement season. You have to set aside a particular percentage of your regular income while you’re still in active service. The money you save at that time will then serve you when you retire.
Remember that Financial Retirement Planning is mostly common sense. Be educated and make knowledgeable decisions and then review the results on a yearly basis. Don’t panic just because a stock goes down in value once in awhile. This is the nature of investing – stocks go up and they go down in value. If you’re on a long term plan, stick to the plan and the ups and down should all even out over the years to provide for your retirement needs.
How did you get the idea of writing this book on Retirement Planning?
I was surprised to find many US based books on retirement planning, but nothing in the Indian context, hence the plunge. I was asked by my friends in Moneycontrol to write the way I speak. Around 70 per cent of the book was already written and stored electronically. So I just had to collate it.
It’s too complicated as of now. I am not sure about the fund management expertise. The rates are too fine but I guess it will surely change. If that is not done then good fund managers will not be willing to come in. I am willing to talk about it only after I see its performance for 4-5 years. Also I am not very sure how the annuity will be priced.
The bottom line is that no one really knows what the stock market is going to do during the next ten year though indicators point towards a decline. Gold is hot right now, but will it continue to grow during periods of inflation? Given the uncertainty of the market, why would anyone invest in stocks anytime soon?
Planning is most important in your life. Planning plays a major role in all small or big works that you do in your life which includes your day to day routines as we as, for future plans. Achieving your targets through planning is the whole sole goal for making a plan.
If you want to successfully achieve all your goals for retirement planning, you need to show discipline in all your investments. It will require a continuous and disciplined action for your investments. You will require allocating some part of your earnings separately to invest for achieving your Retirement Goals. Another aspect of discipline relates to treating your retirement corpus as sacred.
The 401k Retirement plan has taken the corporate world by storm since 1979, primarily because of it’s affordability to employers. While pensions often sucked companies dry, 401k providers charge a small monthly administration fee (usually around $100) and this will give employers and employees many different investment options. After signing a contract, you allow a percentage of your income to be deducted and put into a special account where it can vest interest over the years and profit with the economy. Sometimes employers agree to match your contributions and your final pay-out could be doubled by the time you receive it.
